Combo Skating Drills for Agility

Here are some ideas for Combo Skating Drills for your agility. Every drill requires quick feet and smooth edge control.

These drills are featured in the "Hockey Lab Japan : THE SUPERSKATER CD-ROM (in Japanese only)".

Train Drill : One Foot Turn
  1. Pair up with your partner.
  2. Hold sticks with the partner and line up like a train.
  3. The skater in front skates forward in full and strong strides to pull the partner.
  4. The skater who is pulled glides on one skate, making turns by using in-edge and out-edge alternately.

Backward X Drill
  1. Set up four cones to make a square inside the face off circle.
  2. Skate around cones like the diagram, using quick forward and backward starts and stops.

Circle Convection Drill
  1. Set up four cones to make a square inside the face off circle.
  2. Skate around cones like the diagram, using quick forward start, pivot and back skating.
  3. Make sure to face outside of the circle when pivoting from backward to forward crossover turn for better edge control.

Circle Tight Turns Drill
  1. Set up four cones to make a square inside the face off circle.
  2. Skate around cones like the diagram, using quick forward crossover and tight turns.
